TIAGO - PELE

His real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento. He is a Brazilian football player, considered by many people to be the best footballer ever. He was born on October 19th, 1940. His father was a football player, too. When he was ten he began to work cleaning shoes. On Saturdays he went to the football stadium to clean people’s shoes. One day he told to his mother that he wanted to be a football player, but his mother was angry. Pele lived near a small club called ¨Santos¨ where he began to play as a professional football player. He played for Brazil's national team in four World Cups from 1958 to 1970, and then went to the US and played for the New York Cosmos, where he helped to make football (SOCCER) more popular. On November 19th, 1969 there were around 80,000 people in the stadium to see him playing for ¨Santos¨. In all his 1,363 football matches he scored 1281 goals, nearly one goal per match. Pele stop playing football in 1974 but today many people remember him. In 1994, he became Brazil's Minister of Sports.
